reader response number 6 :find a poet

The poet that i read some of her poems is Jovenia G Salazar.
In her poems she talks alot about God and how hes always there for us. she also talks alot about life and the wonderful world that we live in. I didnt care too much for the poems she wrote. They were alright because it was nicely writen, her use of words, and they all have meaning to them but i didnt care about her topics that much. I think i didnt care too much for her topics because i am not a very religious person and in every poem i read had something about god or jesus in it. I also think that i didnt like these poems that much because they didnt really relate to me that much and some of what she wrote seemed like it didnt take any thinking and anyone could write it, so it made it a little boring instead of interesting to me. One thing that does relate to me and everyone else though in one of her poems is that sometimes life doesnt go your way and somethings go wrong in life, but you can get through it. My personal definition of poetry is just writing that people write to express their feelings but it also has to have a rythem to it and a topic that the whole poems about.

reader response #3

Huck is impressed about all the pictures and the poetry in the house. He is also impressed of the house, how much money they have, and how educated they are. Huck's view of success and happiness is probably being educated and living in a nice house and family. "It was a double house, and the big open place betwixt them was roofed and sometimes the table was set there inthe middle of the day, and it was a cool, comfortable place. Nothing could be better." (chapter 17, page 79, last paragraph.)

The reason the books int he house were special was because the girl that lived there was about 15, she wrote poetry in a scrap book. Huck was interested in them because they were really good and written by someone his age that had died. They also had meaning to them and they were about death. "if emmeline grangerford could make poetry like that before she was fourteen, there aint no telling what she could of done by and by." (ch. 17, page 78, first paragraph after poem.)

The thing that is unique about the poems and the scrap book is it was written by a young girl. she seemed to be obsessed with death and writing about people dying. The significance of the drawing of the girl on the edge of the bridge with three sets of arms was she never got to make up her mind of how she wanted the arms to go. The girl on the edge was committing suicide. I think that Mark Twain describes it so detailed is to show you how this girl really feels about suicide and death. His view on art tells that all art has meaning to it. Huck is so touched by this girls life and art because shes young and her art has meaning to its sadful. He thought it wasnt right that she wrote about everyone elses deathbut no one wrote about hers, so Huck tried making one for her. (Chap. 17, page 78, the first paragraph after the poem)
